Thijssen tops Saturday’s CSIO4*

7 September 2024

Mel Thijssen of the Netherlands cherished her victory at the second Saturday’s competition of WJ 2024 – the 145 cm for the prize of Miasto Warszawa, under the patronage of TVP Sport.

Along with the morning contest of young horses, the bar of expectation went up and the competitors were about to face higher fences. The competition itself promoted speed, so instead of penalty points for knockdowns, there came penalty seconds.

The fastest and a clear one came the young Dutch Mel Thijssen with the 14-year-old Florida Balia NL mare.

That is how Thijssen related to her horse and overall performance: She jumped superbly. She did every of the turns perfectly. It was a real speed course, a lot of turns. I think it is the mainly difficult part to take those turns as short as possible and of course stay clear. – admitted the Dutch with a beam.

Right after her came Angelos Touloupis, riding the same 8-year-old Kannandillo that took him to the top spot at the four-star contest the day before.

It feels amazing. My horse is doing so well here. Yesterday we won a class, today we had a mistake, but we are really fast and that makes us happy with the second place. One millisecond and you are too close to he fence, so it was my fault absolutely. – explained the runner-up.

The third position was well taken by a world 100-best-list member – Philip Rüping of Germany with the 11-year-old Chatolinue PS.
