Time for the grand finale! The last but one day at WJ 2024 is over now
Day three has come to an end! Three show-jumping competitions, the show race, numerous races on the green Służewiec Racecourse track, and the hobby horse contest for the youngest – quite an evidence how compatible equestrian worlds can be.
Young horse to open the day with
Another day opened up with young horse rivalry. Hessel Hoekstra of the Netherlands with Stargos VDL came out undefeated in the CSIYH for the prize of M&A Michnik, under the patronage of Świat Koni, by a close shave 0.21 sec. above the second pair.
The course was nice and difficult enough. It was big enough as well. A good group of fair people went clear, so we had a nice jump-off as well. – concluded the 24-year-old. Stargos is really great, he wins a lot of classes. This week he is really good – twice in the top here. And today we really wanted to win. And we did.
There is no Służewiec without ladies!
The Saturday will go down memory lane as the one that belonged to women. The cycle of female winnings got started with the Dutch Mel Thijssen triumphant at at the second Saturday’s competition of WJ 2024 – the 145 cm for the prize of Miasto Warszawa, under the patronage of TVP Sport. Thijssen with Florida Balia NL was the fastest and flawless throughout the 145 cm course.
She jumped superbly. She did every of the turns perfectly. It was a real speed course, a lot of turns. I think it is the mainly difficult part to take those turns as short as possible and of course stay clear. – admitted the Dutch with a beam.
Minutes later, we saw her again, attending the Warsaw Jumping inborn tradition of getting show jumpers involved in horse racing. This year attracted six participants of five countries. Megan Laseur of the Netherlands and Claudia Michel of Mexico went past the finishing post right neck-to-neck, so they cherished the victory together.
The above was not the only Saturday’s race. Among many others, all day long, we saw the Women Power Series with Angelika Burakiewicz come on top. There was also the Apprentice Race – for the experience-gaining one, victorious for Syimyk Urmatbek Uuulu.
Opatrny on top at the ultimate individual contest
All good things come to an end at some point. Best things may do so even sooner. Saturday called it a day with the last individual CSIO4* competition for the prize of Totalizator Sportowy, under the patronage of Ministerstwo Rolnictwa i Rozwoju Wsi. The competition listed 56 in total. Only 8 duos pulled through to the jump-off. Already there, only three of them took a clear one. Opatny with the 12-year-old Human Leaque clocked in first.
It has been a great competition for me. As we are not taking part in the Nations Cup, it was my last start before going home. It’s going to make my way home much better. As for the course, I had initially expected some 15-16 getting through to the jump-off, but as we have seen, the course designer did a good job. – concluded the happy winner.
A bunch of attractions all around
On top of sporting rivalry of relevant level, Saturday’s Warsaw Jumping listed numerous attractions. The exhibitors’ zone, Art Arena, green track races, hobby horse contests, as well as the chill-out zone – every guest could find their own spot.
Sunday remains the cherry on top of the equestrian feast in the heart of Warsaw. 11 national teams will compete for the title of the winner of the European Longines EEF Series Nations Cup, which event will set off at 11 am sharp.
